TechnoWizard

Project description

The TechnoWizard project is a prototype driven research project aimed at exploring how to design games for novel input devices. The project takes inspiration from how Dr Strange casts magic using hand gestures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The prototype initially made use of Notiom’s Hi5 VR gloves. With Meta’s launch of robust hand tracking in their consumer grade headsets we have switched target platforms and our current prototype runs on a wired Meta Quest 2 or Pro headset. This shift in platforms has allowed us to significantly reduced the technology cost of accessing this type of interaction, making the prototype more viable as a commercial product.

The purpose of this project is to experiment with different forms of hand gestures as input, and to evaluate to what extent these are feasible as intuitive control systems for games. TechnoWizard is still in the early stages, but the final product is intended to be a wizard duel between two players. The current prototype has basic capability to do gesture-based spellcasting in a Unity environment.
